Q DESIGN AUTOMATION ANNOUNCES STRENGTHENED TOOL SET SUPPORT FOR OPEN INTEROPERABILITY THROUGH CADENCE’S VIRTUOSO PLATFORM

Qtrek-Migrate and Qtrek-Create Now Support OpenAccess Database

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif.September 15, 2003Q Design Automation, a leader in IC layout optimization for creation and migration, today announced that the Qtrek-Migrate and Qtrek-Create products will support the newly introduced  Cadence® Virtuoso ® custom design platform by October 2003.  With the advent of 90nm and 65nm processes, a critical need has developed for layout optimization in order to achieve silicon--accurate layout. The Qtrek family of products operates standalone through GDS formats or as highly integrated solutions within Cadence’s Virtuoso custom design platform, running on the industry-standard OpenAccess database. This tight integration  enables the Qtrek products to optimize and maintain the layout hierarchy and structure including p-cells, paths, MPP guardrings, and ports.

“We believe the Cadence Virtuoso platform provides our customers with the most comprehensive design platform for custom, analog, RF and mixed-signal designs available today,” stated Randy Fish, President of Q Design.  “Virtuoso’s integration with OpenAccess provides yet another level of interoperability we can offer our users.  Moving forward, we plan to work with Cadence to deliver increased performance through tighter integration and support for OpenAccess.”

OpenAccess support will deliver increased productivity for users involving tools from multiple commercial vendors and internally developed applications. The OpenAccess Coalition’s charter is to establish an industry-wide open data communication platform to enable improved interoperability and reduced cycle time for data exchange.

“Our mutual customers are driving the need for our partners to support the OpenAccess database as an industry standard,” stated Michael Sanie, Group Director, Strategic Third Party Partnerships and Initiatives at Cadence.  “.We are pleased to see that Q Design has done so by updating their Qtrek products to align with our Virtuoso platform in support of OpenAccess.”

Q Design provides solutions for performing two-dimensional layout optimization and migration while retaining all design hierarchy.  Qtrek-Migrate is used for layout migration of memories, standard-cells, analog, datapath, and I/O designs. Qtrek-Create is used to improve the layout productivity of layout designers creating new layout. Both tools can interface through either GDSII or the Cadence-Virtuoso environment.

About the Cadence Virtuoso custom design platform

The Cadence® Virtuoso® custom design platform is the world’s fastest, most silicon-accurate custom design system. It directly addresses the speed and silicon accuracy requirements of advanced analog, RF, custom digital, and mixed-signal designs. The Virtuoso platform includes the industry’s only specification-driven environment, the world's first multi-mode simulation, >10x faster accelerated layout, advanced silicon analysis, and mixed-signal full-chip integration. It is available on both the Cadence CDBA database and the industry-standard OpenAccess database. With the Virtuoso platform, even the most advanced design teams can deliver silicon that is right, on time.

 About OpenAccess

OpenAccess is a community-driven initiative, which provides an interoperability platform for complex IC design based on a common, open and extensible architecture. This is done through an open standard data access interface (API) and reference database implementation supporting that API. The OpenAccess technology enables easy tool integration from multiple vendors, smooth interoperability and faster application development. The initiative is driven by the OpenAccess Coalition, an organization comprised of world leaders in IC design. The OpenAccess Coalition operates under the governance and bylaws of Si2. For more information about OpenAccess, visit www.si2.org/openaccess and www.OpenEDA.org. Member companies are: Artisan Components (Nasdaq: ARTI), Cadence Design Systems (NYSE:CDN), Hewlett-Packard (NYSE: HPQ), IBM (NYSE: IBM), Intel (Nasdaq: INTC), LSI Logic (NYSE: LSI), Motorola (NYSE: MOT), Nassda (Nasdaq: NSDA), Philips Semiconductors (NYSE: PHG), Renesas Technology Corp., Sagantec, STMicroelectronics (NYSE:STM), Sun Microsystems (Nasdaq: SUNW), Synplicity (Nasdaq: SYNP), and Tektronix (NYSE:TEK).
